Kenneth Henniges

Kenneth E. Henniges, 73, of Sumner, died Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30     a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. Sandra Burroughs officiating.  Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sumner.  Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday August 25, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner and for one hour preceding the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to Durant Elementary School, Sumner Volunteer Fire Department or St. John Lutheran Church. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner is assisting the family. 

Kenneth Earl, son of Edward and Dorothy (Webster) Henniges, was born, November 22, 1941, in Sumner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. He received his kindergarten through 4th grade education in Sumner #5 Country School, 5th through 12th grade in Sumner Public Schools, and graduated from Sumner High School in 1960. He furthered his education by graduating with honors from the College of Hard Knocks. On July 22, 1962, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Ann Sage, at The Baptist Church in Sumner. Elizabeth’s death occurred February 14, 1970. On November 21, 1970, he was united in marriage with Janet Ann Bock Henniges at St. John Lutheran Church. Kenny owned and operated Sumner Plumbing and Heating for many years. He later worked at Koering in Waverly, Dick’s Petroleum in Tripoli, and at Durant Elementary in Sumner, prior to retiring in 2007. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, Sumner Volunteer Fire Department, Commercial Club, Sumner Saddle Club, and the NRA. He particularly enjoyed horses, wood-working, hunting, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Jan, of Sumner; four children, Julie (Rick) Gesie of Waterloo, Randy (Katrina) Henniges of Sumner, Jean Allen of Sumner, and Jill (Pete) Henniges-DuChene of Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sharon (Ken) Kasemeier of Sumner, Joyce (Roger) Dedor of Jesup, and Marilyn (Skip) Koenig of Sumner; three sisters-in-law, Carol (David) Lee of Montana, Joan (David) Amdahl of Colorado, and Barb (Ken) Gilson of Sumner; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife, Elizabeth, Kenny was preceded in death by his parents.

Dave and I are so sorry for the loss of a dear friend. We will hold a lot of great memories in our hearts. Special ones include Bushwackers in Omaha, the prime rib at Farmer Browns, and of course all the Fire Dept. fun we had together also the shaupscuoff cardgames or however it is spelled, we will never forget Kenny.
